PROFILE PHOTO The “About kibberthejibber” profile photo [seen at the bottom of this post] shows two of the five kittens Lori & I rescued on Tuesday a week ago. TR probably was still recovering from being left behind with his 2 sisters & TJ on the second floor deck where we’d trapped his Mom the night before.
CHABLIS: TOO SMART FOR HER OWN GOOD Chablis is Mom’s name, and she was able to pick up 4 of her 5 kittens that we’d placed in the rear of the trap [see photo] before finally setting it off as she went back in to get her 5th & final kitten [Obama – photo to come later].
“I THOUGHT YOU SAID YOU BROUGHT 5 KITTENS” When Lori & I first pulled back the towels covering the cage we could see Chablis & Obama, who was nursing at the time; we thought that the other 4 kids were underneath the small blanket that we’d put inside the trap to protect everyone inside from the steel floor.
But when we got to the Pet Hospital, there were no kittens under the blanket. “Oh, no,” said one of the vets, “you need to find the other 4 kittens quickly, because they can not survive on their own but for a very short time.”
SECOND 2ND FLOOR RESCUE So back to the apartment complex where we’d trapped Mom & Obama on a second floor deck we went; and up the tree I climbed that I’d seen Mom use to get to her new brood the night before; and there the Kids were, all huddled together for warmth – as well as for psychological comfort, I’m sure – beneath the covered barbecue setup where Mom had hidden them several days earlier… on Presidents’ Weekend… & thus the names TJ, TR & Obama.
Oh, and Abby & Georgina, which you’ll see in a later post, I’m sure.
“CHABLIS IS BEING A GREAT MOM!” Well, everyone is doing very well two+ weeks later, and everyone at the Pet Hospital comments about what a good mother Chablis is. Of course, given that those who know here at the apartments say this is at least her 6th litter, I suppose being a great mother would be expected with all that practice of raising today about her 31st to 35th or so kittens.
ONLY 4 KITTENS LEFT Anyone interested in seeing these little guys & gals at the end of this month, when they’ll be up for adoption in the lobby of the Pet Hospital, can let me know. One of the 3 males [solid grey] already has an owner, and I’ll get a family pohoto posted tonight.
That’s my plan.
